306            TONE-POETRY OF ROBERT BURNS
Thou Power Supreme whose mighty scheme
These woes of mine fulfil, Here firm I rest, they must be best,
Because they are Thy will ! Then all I want—O do Thou grant
This one request of mine !— Since to enjoy Thou dost deny,
Assist me to resign.
No. 326. But lately seen in gladsome green.
Tune: East Indian air Scots Musical Museum, 1796, No. 486.
But lately seen in gladsome green,
The woods rejoic'd the day; Thro' gentle show'rs the laughing flow'rs
In double pride were gay : But now our joys are fled
On winter blasts awa, Yet maiden May in rich array
Again shall bring them a'.
But my white pow, nae kindly thowe
Shall melt the snaws of age ; My trunk of eild, but buss and bield,
Sinks in Time's wintry rage. O, age has weary days
And nights o' sleepless pain ! Thou golden time o' youthfu' prime,
Why comes thou not again ?
